English in its role of international link language both spoken and written has, in recent days, assumed greater importance particularly in the arena of global interaction and communication. Apart from offering an extensive & intensive study of the language, the Department of English-which started functioning since the inception of Uluberia College – strives to develop the reading, writing & communicative skills of the students. A group of five highly competent and experienced part time teachers faced the challenges of meeting all the requirements of nearly [five hundred] students per year as there was no full time teachers in the department for several years. Now with one full time teacher [1 post till vacant] and five part timers the department has been striving hard to offer effective teaching to the best of its ability. However, we do not hesitate to admit that compared to the vast number of students our faculty is inadequate as it still faces dearth of teachers.

The Department of History, Uluberia College has four sanctioned substantive posts. At present only two posts are filled by teachers appointed through the recommendations of the West Bengal College Service Commission. Of the two vacant posts, one is reserved for ST / SC category, thus becoming difficult to find suitable candidates required for this post. So there is inadequacy in fulfilling the requirement. However, with active co-operation from two Part time Lecturers and the full-time teachers are carrying on their duties. |

Economics Department offers the subject as part of the General course for B.A. Students. Sri Soumyadeep Chattopadhyay is on lien and Sm. Deepanjana Basu is on leave with a view to further academic advancement. The departmental activities are efficiently managed by Sm. Soma Dutta and by Sri Mihir Si. |
